Even the newer groups have been established for a decade or two. Sometimes the break-up of an old poetry society would give rise to a few new ones. Sometimes younger poets who couldn’t see eye to eye with the elders in charge of a society founded a new one. Some directors are already in their eighties, and society activities have virtually ceased.
